Yet Another MiaB Page

Friday, January 15th, 2010

I have just uploaded a page on the Auxiliary Section of the SoftWare Audio Console to the Mixer in a Box site.

I also did a couple of other tweaks while I was fussing with the site. I reordered the left column nav section in a way that I feel is more logical and added one more category to the coming attractions section. I also retitled the video page since there are now two videos to view.

Check out the new pages at Mixer in a Box.

The Scenes System in SAC

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

I have recently been adding some content to my Mixer in a Box site. I have just uploaded a page about the scenes system incorporated in the SAC software. This scenes system is very powerful. The resolution of the scenes system allows one to control a single event on a single mixer up to a global snapshot of all twenty five mixing consoles in the Software Audio Console software. Read more about the uses of the scenes system on the Scenes Page at Mixer in a Box.

Just a Quicky

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

I have begun an update of The Closet Online. I will be adding some catalog pages. Then I will be trying to direct some traffic there. The catalog that I am putting up now is a custom jeweler. I am thinking of putting up a Squidoo lens to direct some traffic there, and maybe a hub page as well. I may also try a few articles.

I have a lot of studying to do, and a lot of work. I need to start generating some income from the sites. This becomes a job if one is to derive the benefit. I will drop some links here when I go live with the update. Subscribe to the RSS feed so that you can keep informed.

Uploading Tonight

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

I had done some preliminary work on the Mixing Live Sound site, primarily to the home page. I had put it into the new format and gotten some of my ramblings off of the page a couple of weeks ago. Now I have gone through the rest of the site and brought it up to the current spec.

I removed more ramblings from the front page and inserted a news feed from Pro Sound Web with industry news. I also found five other news feeds related to the industry and built the industry news area. I redid the nav top, bottom, and left column. I added the RSS feed meta tag so that the smarter browsers will display the RSS icon in the address bar. I added a links page and a site news page.

I will upload it this evening and test to see if I can find the things that I broke while fixing the site. I need more eyes for the testing, so stop on over and see if you can find something that does not work as expected.  Just leave a note in the Message Center or come back here and post a comment. Thanks!

Update Progress

Monday, January 5th, 2009

The new Web Pickups is taking shape. I made the decision on how to handle the pictures pages and proceeded with the process. I have one more minor addition to the pages, but that one should go smooth. I also have assigned myself one more task for the home page. It is a minor improvement but will take some time to implement.

Speaking of time, this update has been more time consuming than I had expected or hoped. There are probably almost 400 pages on this site. I have done much of the work with the ‘find and replace’ function of my text editor, but there were some minor differences on some of the pages that prevented this from being 100% successful. I have had to open each page in my html editor and check for errors. I think that I have found them all. I also found that I did not have a local copy of a half dozen pages and a few images. I will probably have over 20 hours into this update project.

The good news is that all that I have accomplished is uploaded and ready to greet my visitors. I have found the site much easier to navigate in my testing. When I put the finishing touches on the update I will probably bother my email list with the news. You can go now and check the progress at the New Web Pickups site.

It’s Live

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

Last evening I went live with the update to The Closet Online, check it out!! The primary feature of the update is the home page with eight boxes with randomly rotating content. The page will look slightly different on each load (hint, when you visit the page hit the refresh button a few times).

I learned something about the clear function in css. The page was falling apart at lower screen resolutions (I am designing on a 19″ 1440X900 screen). I tried inserting a spacer div to keep the page from falling apart at anything below about 1300px and that includes at least 75% of viewers probably. Until I thought to apply ‘clear: both’ to the div in the css I had no success. Since I found this key I have added the spacer div to my starter pages. I had been applying a height value to my content area. That kind of works, but when the screen resolution is reduced past a certain point the content spills off the bottom of the page. I will need to revisit each of those pages probably to correct this problem. I probably can’t craft a ‘find and replace’ for this situation because the content varies from page to page.

In other news, I started a ‘to do’ list a couple of weeks ago with jobs and ideas for the websites. I add things as I think of them and delete completed projects when I finish with one. So far, the list gets longer much quicker than it shrinks. I will have plenty of tasks lined up for this slow season in my regular business. Somebody may even find one of these pages and click on a banner or link and buy something.
