I opened a new blog the other day, The Keyword Kove Blog. I wanted an alphabet soup background for this blog.

I found some images and made a few backgrounds from which to choose. Some of the designs were interesting so I thought that I could add some more soups and put up a gallery. I did this last evening.

The process that I use builds a symmetrical image from a part of a larger image. The result is an image tile that can provide a seamless background image for a page. The process produces some interesting geometrics. Often the subject picture is not recognizable as such but the background produced can have intricate designs.

I took some time yesterday to process some pictures mostly taken by the Hubble Space Telescope into symmetrical background images. It is almost a shame to do this to these pictures, as the photos are so spectacular in their own right. There are several striking backgrounds and a few that are more muted. I am sure that I will find a home for some of these images myself.

Symmetrical Backgrounds is my site that offers free use of background images. Most of these images are symmetrrical so that they tile seamlessly to provide a unique background for a web page. I do ask that users download the image and host it on their site, rather than using my bandwidth to serve their backgrounds.

There is a new gallery of images on my background image site: http://www.symmetricalbackgrounds.com/galleries/gallery3/. These are symmetrical derivatives of images submitted by Maureen Brown. I will be posting Maureen’s gallery of images soon. I have to make some adjustments to the html template for my gallery software to accommodate these images. While Maureen’s images are not symmetrical for the most part, there are some very nice designs available. I am sure that visitors to the site will find things that will be of use to them among this collection of images.
