New Backgrounds and an RSS Feed

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

The new Intel i7 CPU’s were launched today. One of my tech news sites had a micro-photo of the new chip. I used various areas of the photo to make some background images. The photo has a lot of colors and intricate designs. I like the images that came from this photo a good bit.

I had thought about my methods of making the images and was able to cut out several steps in producing the images. That saves quite a bit of time in making the images. Together with my modified gallery software to build the pages the process is now much faster.

In my travels on the web I ran across a site called Ice Rocket that has a free RSS feed builder. I had been thinking that I should have an RSS feed from several of my sites, so I signed up for the service. I registered several of my sites, and will probably add some more as I go along. Since I was updating the site Symmetrical Backgrounds is my first site to use the service. I have two entries in the feed for my two most recent galleries of background images. You can check out the new images HERE.

More or Less

Monday, November 17th, 2008

I have the AudioArt Blogs more or less where I want them to be. I still need to add links back to my home page for site navigation, but I remembered how I did things with this blog and made most of the adjustments that I wanted to make. I was able to add my pic in the right sidebar and get my advertising on the pages. I just remembered that I also need to place my tracking script on the pages. That should be a simple process, but I may not know if it is working until someone chooses to read some of the entries into the blog. Time will tell. I will go do that now!

Aside from that there were 5 clicks between two of my sites today for a total of $1.65. The income may not be a record, but I think that the number of clicks probably is a record.

New Blogs for the AudioArt Sound Site.

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

Today I installed the WordPress software on the AudioArt Sound site. I have been making blog type entries in a couple of areas of the site for the past couple of years. I will consolidate these various pages to individual pages in the new blog area. Using the blogging software will facilitate making entries. The old way was fairly easy but not as easy as making entries in the blog software, as the blogging software has built in publishing functions as well as automated RSS feeds. I have not had an RSS feed in the past, so this will allow those that are interested to track my adventures.

The software is now set up with the default theme, but I will be customizing it so that it has the look and feel of the old blog pages and the site in general. The link above will take you to the new blog and I will be adding linking from the AudioArt site when the customization is done and there is a bit of content on some of the pages.

I won the battle (more or less)

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

I twisted this softwares arm a bit and got it to do most of what I want it to do. I may fuss with it a little bit more, but it is in usable shape right now. Now I can begin working on the content for the site.

I do have some reservations about this software, but I think that those things can be managed. It does not seem to be as user friendly as it could be. Perhaps that is the nature of wiki software. I looked at the other offering from my web hosting company. It looked about the same. I won’t really know about the usibility until I begin to populate the site with some content. I will report when I have some experience.

Another site, another battle begins

Saturday, November 15th, 2008

Today I purchased another domain name. It is livesoundwiki.com. It is intended as a community site for those interested in the live sound reinforcement field. I am inviting experienced engineers to post articles on the subject of live sound production.

Of course, I want to integrate the wiki into my site format. This is where the battle begins. I have tried a couple of approaches, so far without success. I have only begun to fight!! I am sure that there is a way to do what I want, but it may involve reading the documentation or locating some assistance.  I will keep after it.

A new site to develop

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

Last evening I purchased the domain, http://www.pcappstore.com/. I was reading an article on one of my tech sites and the name came to mind. I think that the name has a good bit of potential. There is a big buzz right now for the iPhone app store and many of the mobile providers are getting application stores together. I think that there will probably be a good bit of search engine traffic generated by the app store keywords. This may result in some traffic and sales. Now the real work of developing the site must begin.

I will feature paid software, shareware, and freeware applications. I also intend to put some sort of feedback and rating system into place. I hope to make it a useful and profitable site.

New images for Symmetrical Backgrounds.

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

I took some time yesterday to process some pictures mostly taken by the Hubble Space Telescope into symmetrical background images. It is almost a shame to do this to these pictures, as the photos are so spectacular in their own right. There are several striking backgrounds and a few that are more muted. I am sure that I will find a home for some of these images myself.

Symmetrical Backgrounds is my site that offers free use of background images. Most of these images are symmetrrical so that they tile seamlessly to provide a unique background for a web page. I do ask that users download the image and host it on their site, rather than using my bandwidth to serve their backgrounds.
